Becoming a food truck owner takes more than simply coming up with an all-star business plan, creating an amazing concept and menu and purchasing a food truck…
Okay, so that is basically what you have to do to enter the food truck industry, but you also have to get the mind right. If your mind isn’t right, then the fanciest food truck and best recipes aren’t going to go as far as you would like them to.
After all, you are still going to have to log some serious hours. You are still going to have to deal with angry customers (and all of the naysayers). Plus, you are still going to have to be a chef, manager, boss and business owner.
The point is this: There are many steps when it comes to breaking into the food truck industry. One of those steps is having the right mindsets (negative ones will crush your business, and dreams).
As a result, we came up with five things you have to tell yourself before becoming a food truck owner.

5 Things You Have To Tell Yourself Before Becoming A Food Truck Owner
- I Can Do This
- I Will Raise The Funds For A Food Truck Business
- I am a Great Chef, and People Are Going to Love My Food
- I am Willing to Learn Everything I Need to Learn to Succeed
- I Will Not Give Up
I Can Do This
You can do this — you can become a food truck owner and shower yourself in success. It’s okay to be nervous about entering this industry, because it is definitely a risk (as opening any business is). But you need to have faith in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself … then you can’t expect anyone else to.
I can do this. Repeat those words over and over again until they are engraved in your mind.
I Will Raise The Funds For A Food Truck Business
One of the biggest struggles when it comes to breaking into the food truck industry is the simple fact that it costs quite a bit of dough (read this article for more details on that one).
With that in mind, the wrong mindset would be this: ‘I can’t possibly come up with enough cash to purchase a food truck and all of the equipment.’
That negative mindset will lead to a person making pointless purchases and not saving up any money. That negative mindset will lead to a person not trying in the first place.
Think the opposite way by thinking you will be able to raise enough money for a food truck. It will motivate you, and you will start saving your money in hopes of entering the food truck industry in the near future.
As a friendly reminder, you could always get your food truck financed.
I am a Great Chef, and People are Going to Love My Food
You are wanting to enter this industry for a reason. Here is said reason, more likely than not: You love to cook, and you are great at it.
You should be constantly reinforcing this mindset. So many people are afraid to fail, so they don’t even get started. We urge you not to be like that. If you let fear win, then you will always be afraid to follow your dreams, and you never will follow them.
Not only are you a great chef but you are only going to get better from here. That tends to be the case when your work becomes your passion and you are constantly working on your craft (in this case, cooking).
People are going to love your food because you are a mastermind in the kitchen, and you are willing to work harder than anyone else.

I Am Willing to Learn Everything I Need to Learn to Succeed
If you aren’t willing to learn everything about the food truck industry (and other things, such as business), then you are never going to be as successful as you could be.
You have to always be studying the competition, trends, recipes, how to become a better boss and manager, etc.
If you are willing to have an open mind on certain things, and if you are willing to continue your learning every single day, then you are only going to grow as a chef, a business owner and a person. And what’s not to love about that?

I Will Not Give Up
No matter how tough this job/profession gets, and no matter how bad you feel like quitting at times, you can never give up. You have to tell yourself that before you even become a food truck owner.
Spoiler alert: This industry is not for the faint of heart. You are going to be at your food truck working all of the time. You are going to have to put out multiple fires when it comes to customer disputes, employees not doing everything that is asked of them (or their work not being up to par), etc.
Your worries in the food truck industry are going to be tremendous. Not only do you have to worry about making enough money to keep your business afloat but you are also going to have to worry about paying employees (and your rent). It might sound easy on paper, but being a food truck business owner can be a very stressful career, especially in the beginning.
We aren’t trying to discourage you — we are just trying to prepare you for the road ahead.
Never. Give. Up.
You have already sunk so much time, effort and money into this venture. As long as you are willing to hustle to the max, you will survive and thrive as a food truck owner!
Your journey is just starting. Good luck!
